This set has a great mix of round and rectangular sizes that I use for everything from leftover chili to packing my lunch. They are my go-to for everyday family use.

They are a solid, affordable choice for pretty much any kind of everyday food storage.

The Downside: The seal is great for keeping air out, but I wouldn’t trust it with a large amount of soup sloshing around in my bag.

For about $25, this set is one of the best budget options out there.

Honestly, I was surprised by how good these are. They’re a no-frills option, but they do the job perfectly well. The borosilicate glass feels sturdy, and they handle the oven, microwave, and freezer just fine.

The lids have four locking tabs and a removable gasket, so you get a secure, leak-resistant seal. If you just need a reliable set of glass food containers without paying for a big brand name, these are an excellent choice.

The Downside: The lids feel a bit clunky and aren’t as easy to snap on and off as the OXO or Rubbermaid ones.

These are, without a doubt, the most beautiful food storage containers I’ve ever owned. The ceramic-coated glass comes in gorgeous colors that match their cookware. They look so nice that I feel good about serving food directly from them, even for guests.

Beyond looks, they are very practical. The lids provide a secure, airtight seal, and the square shapes stack incredibly neatly in my fridge, which makes my organized heart happy.

The Downside: The lids have to be hand-washed, which is a bit of a pain. And obviously, the price is very high.

 

 

What I Look For in Glass Containers

The biggest difference you’ll see is the type of glass: tempered or borosilicate. Tempered glass (like Pyrex uses) is super strong and resistant to shattering if you drop it. Borosilicate glass (like OXO) is what lab beakers are made of, and it’s amazing at handling extreme temperature changes without cracking.

Lids are just as important as the container itself. I almost always prefer lids with locking tabs and a silicone gasket. They provide a much more secure, leak-proof seal than the simple press-on plastic lids. Just make sure the gasket is removable so you can clean it properly.

And don’t forget about shape and stackability! Square or rectangular containers are much more space-efficient in the fridge and freezer than round ones. Having a set that nests inside itself is also a huge plus for saving cabinet space.
