There’s just something about an Adirondack chair. It makes you want to sit down, grab a cold drink, and just relax for a while. I’ve had a few sets over the years, from classic wood ones that needed constant upkeep to the newer composite ones that are pretty much indestructible.

After years of testing them out around my fire pit, on the deck, and even hauled down to the local park, I’ve found a few that really stand out. You don’t have to spend a fortune, but investing in a good one means you’ll be relaxing in it for years to come.

POLYWOOD Modern Curveback Adirondack Chair

This chair costs about $269, and it’s the one you buy when you’re tired of buying new chairs every few years. I’ve had two of these on my patio for three seasons now, and they look exactly the same as the day I put them together. They’ve been through harsh sun, snow, and torrential rain without a single sign of wear.

They’re made from a super dense recycled plastic that feels solid as a rock. The back has a nice curve to it that’s really comfortable, and the armrests are wide enough for my morning coffee mug. And a 20-year warranty is just wild—they really stand behind this stuff.

The Downside: You do have to assemble it yourself. It wasn’t hard, but it did take me about 20 minutes per chair with the included tools.

For around $150, this chair is incredibly convenient. We bought a couple of these for extra seating when we have people over. They fold up easily and are light enough to store in the garage without taking up a ton of space.

It’s made of a durable resin that’s held up great in the sun and rain. I was surprised that it can hold up to 400 pounds because it feels so lightweight. It’s a great option if you need something portable for a tailgate or a trip to the beach.

The Downside: The seat is pretty hard and flat. It’s fine for an hour or so, but if you plan on sitting all afternoon, you’ll definitely want to grab a cushion.

The design feels really stable and it doesn’t feel like it’s going to tip over, even on our slightly uneven lawn. The seat is comfortable and has a nice curve to it. It’s a solid, no-fuss chair that just works.

The Downside: The assembly was a bit of a headache. The instructions weren’t super clear, and a couple of the holes didn’t line up perfectly. It took some elbow grease to get it together.

This chair from L.L.Bean costs around $200. It has that classic, timeless look that just feels right for a backyard or a front porch. It’s made from a high-density polyethylene that’s heavy and feels super durable.

I really like the “waterfall” front of the seat. It’s rounded, so it doesn’t cut into the back of your legs when you’re sitting for a long time. This is another one of those chairs that you can leave out all year without worrying about it.

The Downside: The seat itself is very firm and doesn’t have much contour. It’s comfortable enough, but adding a thin cushion makes it a lot better for longer sits.

It has a clean, elegant style and folds down easily for storage. It’s a great fit for a modern patio or deck, and it’s comfortable enough to sit in for hours. I appreciate that it’s made from stuff that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.

The Downside: There aren’t a lot of colors to choose from. The options are nice, but they are pretty limited compared to other brands.

For just $90, this is a great deal if you really want a real wood chair. It’s made from hemlock, which has some natural resistance to rot, and it has that classic, rustic charm you can only get from wood.

It’s surprisingly comfortable for the price, with a big seat and wide arms. The fact that it folds is a huge plus, making it easy to store. If you’re on a budget or just need a chair for a season or two, this is a great pick.

Finally, think about storage. If you have a small space or live somewhere with harsh winters, a folding chair is a really practical choice. Just make sure it’s not too heavy to actually move around.
