I’ve got a couple of small air purifiers scattered around my house, and honestly, they make a huge difference. Our guest bedroom always felt a little stuffy, and my home office collects dust like it’s a hobby. A big, clunky unit is just overkill for these smaller spaces.

The Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Compact is usually around $99. This one is for you if you want smart controls in a tiny package.

I was really impressed with how quiet this thing is, even when it’s working hard. The app control is a nice touch, letting you adjust settings or set a schedule from your phone. It looks clean and modern, so it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb.

It moves a good amount of air for its size. It’s perfect for a small office where you want to set it and forget it, letting the auto mode do its thing.

The Downside: The carbon filter part is a bit small, so it’s not the best choice if you’re dealing with strong, persistent odors like from pets or cooking.

The Coway Airmega 100 runs about $79 and it’s a little powerhouse, especially for allergens.

What I Look For In a Small Purifier

For me, the most important thing is noise. If it’s going in a bedroom or office, it has to be quiet enough to ignore on its lowest setting. I can handle some fan noise when it’s on high, but the overnight setting needs to be whisper-quiet.

I also look at the cost of replacement filters. Some brands charge a fortune, and you’ll be buying them every 6-12 months. It’s a recurring cost that can really add up, so I always check the price before I buy the machine.

Finally, I decide if I really need smart features. They’re nice to have, especially the auto mode that adjusts based on air quality. But for a guest room or a bathroom, a simple, “dumb” purifier that I just turn on and off manually works perfectly fine.
