After it finishes a cleaning run, it goes back to its base, empties its own dustbin, washes the mop pad with clean water, dries it with hot air to prevent mildew, and even refills its own water and cleaning solution tanks. It’s the most hands-off robotic vacuum cleaner I’ve ever used. If the kids spill something, its smart dirt detection makes it go over the spot until it’s actually clean.

The Downside: The price is steep. It’s a major investment upfront, but the convenience is just unmatched if you have a busy house.

 

 

eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 11S Max

At around $160, this is the smart vacuum I recommend to all my friends who are on the fence. You get a ton of performance for a really low price. It doesn’t have fancy mapping, but it gets the job done and does it well.

My favorite thing is how slim it is. It easily gets under our low-profile couch and the guest room bed, places I could never reach with my old upright. It also automatically ramps up the suction power when it detects it’s on a rug, which is a feature I usually see on much more expensive models.

The Downside: It sometimes gets stuck on the taller transition strip between our kitchen tile and the living room hardwood. It’s not a dealbreaker, but I sometimes have to give it a little nudge.

 

 

ECOVACS DEEBOT X9 PRO Omni Robot Vacuum and Mop

This ECOVACS model runs about $700. If you have a lot of hard floors and pets, this is the one you want. The mopping on this thing isn’t just a wet pad being dragged around; it actually scrubs.

It puts a ton of pressure on its roller mop, and it really works. We tested it with some dried chocolate syrup the kids dripped, and it got it all up in one pass. It’s also a beast with pet hair, pulling an amazing amount out of our low-pile area rugs. It works fast, too.

The Downside: You really need to use the app to get the most out of it. If you just want to press a button and have it go, you’ll be missing out on a lot of the custom cleaning features.

 

 

DREAME X50 Ultra Robot Vacuum and Mop

This is the priciest one on the list at $1050, but it’s an absolute powerhouse for tricky layouts. If your house has a lot of furniture, toys left on the floor, or different floor heights, this robot navigates it all like a pro.

Its obstacle avoidance is the best I’ve seen. It steers clear of charging cables and dog toys without just stopping in its tracks. It can also climb over thresholds up to almost 2.5 inches, so it moves between rooms effortlessly. And even with all that brainpower, it has incredible suction for deep cleaning.

The Downside: The docking station is pretty big. You need to make sure you have a dedicated spot for it with some clearance, as it’s not something you can just tuck away in a tiny corner.

 

 

Roborock Qrevo S5V Robot Vacuum and Mop

For about $500, this Roborock hits the sweet spot for performance and price. It gives you a lot of the premium features of the thousand-dollar models without the huge price tag. It’s a fantastic all-arounder for homes with a mix of carpet and hard floors.

The dual spinning mops do a great job on the kitchen floor, and its suction is strong enough to pull deeply embedded pet hair out of my carpets. The zero-tangle roller brush actually works, which is a blessing because I’m tired of cutting my hair out of vacuum brushes.

The Downside: The battery life is noticeably shorter than the really high-end models. It can still clean my whole main floor on one charge, but it doesn’t have much left in the tank after.

 

 

How To Pick The Right Robot Vacuum

So, which one is right for you? It really depends on your house and your budget. If you have a smaller apartment with mostly hard floors, a simple, less expensive model like the eufy is probably all you need.

But if you have a big house with multiple levels, lots of carpeting, and pets, investing in a more powerful model with advanced mapping and a self-emptying dock is worth every penny. Think about your biggest cleaning frustration—is it pet hair? Mopping? Getting under furniture?—and choose the robot that solves that problem best.

Honestly, any of these automatic vacuum cleaners will be a huge upgrade over a traditional vacuum. The simple act of having your floors cleaned every single day without you having to do anything is a luxury I’ll never give up.
